Charlotte Pass was the next stop on my long weekend micro-adventure. Charlotte Pass is the point in the Snowy Mountains where the Kosciuszko Road crosses Kangaroo Ridge at 1837m. The small ski resort of Charlotte Pass Village is nestled into a basin on the under side of the pass.
The area is named after Charlotte Adams who was the first recorded European woman to climb Mount Kosciuszko in 1881.
In winter the area is a thriving ski resort accessible only by snow equipped transport, but in summer makes for a great hiking base.
There are an array of walks from Charlotte Pass of all lengths ranging from the Summit Trail to Mt Kosciuszko (18.5km / 7.5 hrs) to the Snow Gums Boardwalk (400m / 15 mins) and the Main Range Track which is a 23 km circuit but can be broken into smaller sections for shorter walks.
